엑소엠 소개
EXO-M ("M" standing for Mandarin) was the Chinese subunit of the South Korean–Chinese boy group EXO, formed by SM Entertainment. The subunit debuted alongside EXO-K on April 8, 2012, with the EP Mama. While EXO-K promoted primarily in South Korea, EXO-M was created to promote the group's music in Mandarin and focus on the Chinese market.
EXO-M originally consisted of Kris, Xiumin, Luhan, Lay, Chen, and Tao. Although the subunit featured four Chinese members and two Korean members, all six performed Mandarin versions of EXO's songs. The group later promoted as part of EXO's full 12-member lineup for releases including XOXO and Miracles in December, while continuing separate Korean and Mandarin promotions for selected releases.
Between 2014 and 2015, Kris, Luhan, and Tao departed EXO following legal disputes with SM Entertainment. After their departures, the EXO-K and EXO-M subunit system was gradually discontinued, and EXO began promoting as a unified group rather than through separate Korean and Mandarin units. Although EXO-M was never formally announced as disbanded, it has remained inactive since the subunit concept was phased out.
