JO1 (ジェイオーワン) is a Japanese boy group formed through the first season of Produce 101 Japan and managed by Lapone Entertainment. The group currently consists of nine members, Issei Mamehara, Ren Kawashiri, Takumi Kawanishi, Ruki Shiroiwa, Keigo Sato, Syoya Kimata, Junki Kono, Sukai Kinjo, and Sho Yonashiro. Originally formed with eleven members, Shion Tsurubo departed in December 2025 after a five month hiatus following an online gambling controversy and subsequent indictment. Shosei Ohira later departed in May 2026 after spending approximately six months on hiatus, bringing the group to its current nine member lineup.
The group was formed in 2019 after viewers of Produce 101 Japan selected the final eleven members from 101 contestants. Unlike previous winning groups from the Produce 101 franchise, JO1 was created as a permanent group. Their name represents the members becoming one after pursuing their dreams together and striving toward the top of the world.
JO1 officially debuted on March 4, 2020, with their first single Protostar, which topped the Oricon Singles Chart and sold more than 300,000 copies during its first week. Its lead track, Infinity, also reached number one on the Billboard Japan Hot 100. Their early success earned them recognition as one of the Best 5 New Artists at the Japan Gold Disc Awards. They continued building their career with releases including Stargazer, The Star, Challenger, Stranger, and Wandering, while establishing a growing presence in both Japan and South Korea.
Their success continued with the albums Kizuna and Equinox, alongside popular songs such as SuperCali, Tiger, Trigger, and NEWSmile. JO1 expanded their touring activities throughout Japan and internationally, completed their first Asian tour, and made multiple appearances on NHK Kōhaku Uta Gassen. Their achievements have also earned them recognition from the Japan Record Awards, MAMA Awards, and MTV Video Music Awards Japan.
JO1 further expanded internationally through releases including Love Seeker, Where Do We Go, and their first greatest hits album Be Classic. Their Wherever We Are Tour extended across Asia and North America before concluding at the Tokyo Dome in April 2025. The group also made its American television debut on Good Day New York and later performed at the iHeartRadio Jingle Ball Tour.
Following the departures of Shion Tsurubo and Shosei Ohira, JO1 continued as a nine member group in 2026 and embarked on their first dome tour, Eien. The group is continuing its international expansion with the Animal EP and a North American tour scheduled for October 2026, followed by their eleventh single AAO in November. Its lead track, Ignite, serves as the opening theme for the fourth season of Tokyo Revengers.
