Lee Seong-hwa, better known as GRAY, is a South Korean singer, rapper, and record producer. He began composing music in his first year of high school and participated in the 2011 MBC College Song Festival, which he won. He cites Kanye West and Pharrell Williams as key inspirations for his interest in production.
He released his debut single "Blink," in 2012, featuring Zion.T and CRUCiAL STAR.
Gray started to make music professionally around 2010. After rapper Swings heard the work of a then-unknown Gray, they began working together, boosting Gray's career. Because of this, he credits Swings as the person who discovered him.
GRAY’s famous producer tag is a whisper of his stager name, "GRAY," spoken by Zion.T. His original stage name was 'Illest Mike', which was changed to GRAY after a conversation with Zion.T.
In 2013, he signed as AOMG’s first artist, and through this, Gray was able to contribute significantly to the label. He worked with Jay Park in the recruitment of the artists ELO, Loco, Simon Dominic, Ugly Duck, DJ Wegun, and Woo Wonjae. Despite being a singer himself, Gray is highly regarded for his production skills. His musical style is not restricted to a particular genre, often experimenting with R&B, trap, pop, and hip-hop. He released his debut EP, 'Call Me Gray', in 2013. His debut full-length album, 'grayground.' came in 2021.
In 2023, he produced his debut film soundtrack for the Netflix film Ballerina. Through this, Gray was officially invited to the 28th Busan International Film Festival and was also nominated for the Music Award at the 44th Blue Dragon Film Awards.
He was a central figure at the AOMG label from 2013 to 2024, producing many hit songs for the label's artists and significantly contributing to its growth. In 2024, he co-founded the label Duover with Code Kunst and Woo.
