Jung Ilhoon is a South Korean rapper, songwriter, and composer, under Carpenters Art Republic. Formerly the main rapper of the boy group BTOB under Cube Entertainment. Known as the creator of the "Gwiyomi Player" trend, he debuted with BTOB on March 21, 2012, with their single "Insane." Ilhoon later made his solo debut on March 8, 2018, with the mini album "Big Wave".
He enlisted for mandatory service on May 28, 2020, as a public service worker. However, in December 2020, Ilhoon officially left BTOB after becoming involved in a marijuana controversy. He admitted to all charges in April 2021 and submitted two statements of reflection. Originally sentenced to two years in prison with a fine of 133 million KRW on June 10, 2021, Ilhoon appealed, demonstrating remorse with over 80 statements of reflection. His sentence was reduced to three years of probation, a fine of 126.63 million KRW, and 40 hours of drug treatment. Ilhoon stopped using marijuana in 2019, seeking therapy and support from family and friends, which contributed to the court's leniency.
After a three-year hiatus, Ilhoon announced his return to the music industry on Instagram on November 13, 2024, with his single “Lullaby,” set for release on November 21, 2024.
