That same year, she starred as Ahn Soo-Jung in High Kick! Season 3.

Krystal's breakthrough role came in 2013 with SBS's hit teen drama The Heirs, where she portrayed a wealthy yet kind-hearted high school student. The role won her and co-star CNBLUE's Kang Min-hyuk the "Best Onscreen Couple" award at the 2013 DramaFever Awards. In 2014, Krystal joined SM’s ballad group SM the Ballad and co-starred with her sister Jessica in the reality show Jessica & Krystal, showcasing their lives and sisterly bond.

Krystal took her first lead role in the 2014 SBS drama My Lovely Girl with Rain and released the solo single “All of a Sudden” for the show's soundtrack, earning her the "Most Popular Actress" award at the Baeksang Arts Awards. In 2017, she was named "Woman of the Year" by GQ Korea. After her contract with SM expired in 2020, Krystal joined H& Entertainment.
