Jeon Sang-hyun, better known as Paloalto is a prominent South Korean rapper, producer and singer. He has been active in the industry since 2002, making him one of the most idolized rappers in the Korean hip-hop scene. Paloalto is known for his musical style of blending jazz and hip-hop, as well as his role as a record label CEO.
His stage name is a direct reference to the city of Palo Alto in California, USA, where he lived for a year when he was young.
Paloalto first encountered hip-hop in middle school after hearing the music of Wu-Tang Clan and Jay-Z. He released his debut single “Memoriez” in 2002, and followed up with his official debut EP ‘Footprints’ in 2004. His first studio album ‘Resoundin’’ came the following year.
In 2006, he formed the duo P&Q with The Quiett and released the collaborative album ‘Supremacy’. Shortly after meeting Tiger JK, he joined Jungle Entertainment. However, after his contract came to an end he founded Hi-Lite Records in 2010. Former artists of Hi-Lite include Keith Ape, B-Free, Okasian, Swervy & Reddy.
Paloalto has appeared as a producer on three seasons of Show Me the Money, garnering attention for his ability to create hooks and guiding rookie rappers. He is also a member of Damoim, a project group of rappers born in 1984 alongside The Quiett, Simon Dominic, Deepflow & Yumdda. The group was formed on Dingo Freestyle’s web variety show of the same name.
Paloalto married his non-celebrity partner in 2015, after being introduced to each other by fellow rapper Koonta.
After the dissolution of Hi-Lite Records in 2022, he joined Daytona Entertainment. In May 2025, his contract with Daytona came to an end.
