Taemin has had great success with his solo activities, releasing both Korean and Japanese albums. As a solo artist, he is best known for his 2017 hit "Move". The song gained attention for its distinctive choreography, which went viral in South Korea, and Taemin received praise for his "genderless" performance style. In 2017, Taemin began his 1st solo concert tour in Seoul called 'Off-Sick', and later embarked on tours across Japan. Taemin is often nicknamed the "idol of idols" for his influence on younger idols.

On February 24, 2026, Taemin officially terminated his exclusive contract with Big Planet Made Entertainment. The agency confirmed that the contract ended by mutual agreement but did not disclose a specific reason. Reports suggest the decision may be connected to unpaid settlements and concerns over an external contract signed without Taemin’s consent. Big Planet Made stated they ask for continued support for Taemin’s future activities following the contract’s conclusion.
