RM 소개

RM, born Kim Nam-joon and formerly known as Rap Monster, is a South Korean rapper, songwriter, and record producer under Big Hit Music, a subsidiary of HYBE. He is the leader and main rapper of the boy band BTS and is recognized for his contributions to songwriting and production across the group’s discography.

RM developed an interest in hip-hop and writing at a young age and was active in the Korean underground rap scene prior to debut. He joined Big Hit Entertainment after being recruited with the support of rapper Sleepy, and debuted with BTS in 2013.

As a solo artist, RM released his first mixtape, RM, in 2015, followed by "mono" in 2018, which became one of the highest-charting Korean solo projects on the Billboard 200 at the time. In 2017, he officially shortened his stage name from Rap Monster to RM. His first studio album, "Indigo" (2022), debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and received critical acclaim, with its title track “Wild Flower” marking his first solo entry on the Billboard Hot 100.

In 2024, RM released his second studio album, "Right Place, Wrong Person (RPWP)", which further expanded his artistic direction through alternative hip-hop and experimental sounds. The album received widespread critical praise for its introspective themes and cohesive production, and achieved strong international chart performance, including entries on major global charts and recognition among year-end critics’ lists.

Beyond music, RM is noted for his influence as a lyricist and spokesperson, including appearances at international events such as the United Nations, where he delivered speeches on youth and self-identity.

RM began his mandatory military service in December 2023 and completed it in June 2025. Following his discharge, he resumed group activities with BTS, participating in the 2026 comeback album "ARIRANG", marking the group’s first full release after all members completed military service.
